Last year, Mackinlay’s Scotch whiskey was found under British explorer Ernest Shackleton’s hut in Antarctica. The scotch dates back to 1896 or 1897, and actually held up in those arctic weather conditions. This treasure was too special to be returned to Scotland on a commercial flight, so owner of Whyte & Mackay’s, and recent owner of Mackinlays had the bottles flown back on his own private jet. Unfortunately, the whiskey will not be sold, but only studied and tasted in a lab, then returned to Shackleton’s hut at Cape Royds on Ross Island, near Antarctica’s McMurdo Sound.
